"Test your skills" at Camp Shands
The 2008 District Camporee will feature a competition
where basic scouting skills and knowledge is tested.
Print the registration sheet on-line at
www.alachuabsa.org and bring to the February or March
round tables with payment. The first 300 scouts and scouters
registered will receive a camp patch.
Each patrol should bring a sharp edge hand ax, sturdy
sharp pocket knives, a compass and a first aid kit (see Boy
Scout hand book).
Each scout should bring their Totin’ Chip and Fire’n Chit
cards, water bottle(s), and comfortable shoes. Please note
that BSA policy is closed toe shoes only, no sandals.
All troops are encouraged to practice scouting skills
before the Camporee. To keep the competition fair each
patrol will be given a handicap score depending on the rank
of each participating patrol member (details to be shared at
round table).
Each troop should be prepared to present a skit, etc… at
the campfire.
Each troop is required to contribute to staff at the
competition stations. Please bring a sack lunch and drinks
for lunch on the trail.
There will be a camp competition at the end of the day on
Saturday. Raw materials will be brought to camp and only
then will the scouts receive instructions on what they are
to build. A list of materials will be forwarded to a contact
from each troop attending.
