This guide is designed to assist the newly recruited
Venturing crew Advisor in using the Venturing program planning process to
get a crew up and running and off to a successful start. Highlights include
program goals, Venturing methods, crew orientation, steps to getting your
crew up and running, leadership position responsibilities, and hints for
successful crew operations. It also provides information on suggested crew
activities, cooperative and problem-solving games, and suggested agendas.

after their elections.
- Venturing Leader Specific Training (No. 33491D)
This training introduces the new adult crew leader to
Venturing by providing basic information needed to successfully
operate a crew. This information includes the purpose and mission of
Venturing, characteristics of Venturer-aged youth, organization and
leadership of the crew, and program planning and officer training. VLST is
provided several times each year as a component of the District's Annual
Training Plan.
Participants earn a training certificate and a sleeve patch for their
uniforms.
Congratulations to Crew Advisor Julian McCoy of Crew
86 who completed VLST in October 2006.
- Powder Horn

Powder Horn is a seven-day course (also offered in the
weekend variety) on high-adventure resources. It is not a personal
development course like Wood Badge or even a skills course. It will let you
experience many high-adventure skills, learn where to get the resources to
support high-adventure programs, and discover how to offer those programs in
such an exciting, out-of-the-box way that teens will keep coming back to
meetings and activities. For more information,
